According to industry expert, Sharif Rahman, CEO, International Expo Consults (IEC), organisers of DEAL 2019, "The amusement, entertainment and leisure industry in the GCC countries have come a long way. UAE boasts of multiple, award winning entertainment venues prevalent in the country. With host to multiple theme parks such as IMG World of Adventures, Legoland, Motiongate, Bollywood Parks;and Ferrari World and Warner Bros in driving distance, Dubai is definitely the theme park capital of the region".

Rosa Tahmaseb, Managing Director EMEA – Helix Leisure, said "The Industry in the Middle East is interesting at the moment, with various factors affecting the economy we are seeing a slight change in spending patterns. However, the addition of Saudi Arabia opening up the entertainment industry will surely have a big impact on both vendors and operators alike.

One of the reasons that the entertainment industry has found success in the region is its early adoption of the latest technology. Virtual reality and augmented reality has been around for a long time, particularly the former, but its application in theme park rides and games has been pretty recent. The region has welcomed this new change whole heartedly and with open arms in the form of VR park in Dubai Mall that was launched earlier this year.

Technology has also helped in consolidating the back end operations of the park. Firms such as Embed, a Helix Leisure company, who deal in debit card technology, have been providing point of sale and revenue management technology to the amusement parks and FECs around the world.

As part of the upcoming DEAL 2019 event Embed would be introducing their ticketing and booking management platform 'Booking Boss', an end-to-end, web-based ticketing and booking management solution for high-performing attractions.Booking Boss centralizes all admissions revenue and since it's a cloud based platform, it allows for seamless connectivity with the world's largest database of online travel agents (OTAs)via the Channel Manager. By centralizingadmissions into Booking Boss, the customers benefit with increased business visibility which results in the ability for informed business decisions, increased revenue opportunities, improved internal processes and streamlined customer ticketing and booking experiences

"We have had a long standing and fulfilling relationship with DEAL 2019. This year we will showcase Booking Boss.It provides attractions with the option to centralize ticketing and booking management. The platform manages bookings no matter which channel it comes in but also arms the business with a variety of tools such as capacity management, scheduling, re-allocation and auto-communications. This enables attractions the opportunity to maximise selling opportunities and ultimately, increase profit margins", added Rosa.

DEAL 2019 would mark the silver anniversary of the show. For the past two and a half decades, DEAL has represented the largest gathering of entertainment and leisure industry's key players and visitors from the Middle East, Africa, US, Mediterranean and Asian countries. DEAL has shaped the region's entertainment industry during this time and has brought together opinion leaders and high-tech innovations all on one platform. Opening its doors for the 25th time, DEAL 2019 is scheduled to be held between the 25th-27th March 2019 at Halls 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the World Trade Centre, Dubai.

With 7 months left before the silver anniversary edition of the show, the exhibitors have already lined up for participation owing to Dubai's immense popularity as an entertainment and leisure destination.

A leading tourist destination in the world, Dubai witnessed a record-breaking number of international flyers that flew into the city in 2017. With 15.8 million (up by nearly 6.2% last year) people visiting the Emirate, Dubai cemented its position as the most visited city in the Middle East. In between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the UAE offers some of the top theme parks to rival the rest of the world. With Warner Bros being added into the star studded line up of themeparks in the UAE, the country is expected to pull in more tourists than ever before.

Sharif Rahman, CEO of IEC stated that, "The entertainment industry in the MENA region has grown by leaps and bounds over the past decade. We offer some of the best and safest experiences in a theme park anywhere in the world. In addition to the theme parks, the other entertainment venue that is doing very well in the region is the family entertainment centre (FEC). The extended summer season with extreme temperatures is the primary cause for their popularity".

Dubai hasn't shied away from adopting new technology as well. While virtual reality has been around for a long time, its application in theme park rides and games has been pretty recent. The region has welcomed this new change whole heartedly and with open arms in the form of VR park in Dubai Mall that was launched earlier this year.

Similarly edutainment venues and other indoor activities such as trampoline parks and ropes courses have ensured kids of all ages and with varying interests enjoy the best that the region has to offer.

DEAL 2019 show has already sold over 61 percent of the floor space seven months prior to the event. This mega event will take place in Hall 1, 2,3& 4 of the Dubai World Trade Centre.

"DEAL 2019 would be the silver anniversary of the show. Dubai, UAE,June3, 2018: Rising temperatures in GCC will soon drive the residents and tourists more towards the indoor themeparks and numerous family entertainment centres (FEC). According to the International Expo Consults (IEC), organisers of 'DEAL 2019', the largest entertainment & leisure exhibition in the region, there has been increased popularity of FECs in the region and it is evident by their increasing numbers year-after-year.

"The entertainment sector in the GCC, in general, is unlike that around the world. Climatic conditions such as extreme temperatures do not allow year-long operations. Hence the local industry needs to get creative and build for attractions in which the visitor's exposure to the extreme conditions is kept to a minimal or almost no time period. Since the FECs and the indoor parks are immune to the seasonality aspect, they can afford to keep the park functional throughout the year. This is one of the major reasons for their benefit and popularity in the Middle East," stated Sharif Rahman, CEO, IEC.

The recent 'Quality of Life Program 2020' announcement by Saudi Arabia which detailed an investment of USD35 billion in entertainment and culture could prove to be yet another game changer for the industry. After the recent spate of social reforms which included the revoking of a 35-year old ban on cinemas, the Saudis are aggressively trying to explore opportunities in the entertainment segment. With the new announcements entertainment business in Saudi Arabia is bound to generate growth and its effect will be witnessed in the rest of the GCC countries as well.

The amusement and entertainment industry in the region is showing considerable growth, primarily because of the increased spending capacity of the residents, the increased number of tourists visiting the country and the corresponding availability of top attractions which keep getting updated and refreshed with the latest technology. Dubai, for example, has been named the most visited city in the Middle East region. The city welcomed a total of 15.79 million tourists in 2017 as compared to 14.9 million the year before.

Even at this stage, the industry isn't just sitting at its achievements and continuously expanding. End of July marks the launch of a Warner Bros theme park in Abu Dhabi. Earlier this year the region witnessed the launch of a fully-fledged Virtual Reality (VR) park in Dubai with multiple fully-immersive experiences that would transport the user to an alternate reality.Similarly, other brands such as Ferrari World and IMG World of adventures are investing heavily in upgrading and extending their parks. IMG Worlds, already the largest indoor theme park in the world is pushing for 2020 for the launch of its second park – IMG World of Legends. Meanwhile, construction of a new Six Flags theme park is underway at the Dubai Parks and Resorts.

The growth of theme parks industry is not just limited to the increase in their numbers but in their performance as well. DXB Entertainments, the owner of Dubai Parks and Resorts, earned $47m in revenue for the first quarter of 2018, an increase of US$3.5m compared to the same period last year. In terms of FECs as well, there are new venues and attractions being launched in regular intervals. Recently a Dubai based VR firm-Nuat installed its VR cube at Fun City's Bawadi Mall location in Al-Ain, UAE.

Opening its doors for the 25th time, DEAL 2019will represent the largest gathering of entertainment and leisure industry's key players and visitors from the Middle East, Africa, US, Mediterranean and Asian countries. DEAL has shaped the region's entertainment industry for the last two and a half decades and it has brought together opinion leaders and high-tech innovations all on one platform. DEAL 2019 is scheduled to be held between the 25-27thMarch 2019 at Halls 1,2.3 and 4 at the World Trade Centre, Dubai.

Dubai, July5, 2018: Virtual Reality (VR) has been a revelation for the entertainment and leisure industry in UAE and the rest of the GCC region. While VR has been around for quite some time, it has recently provided the opportunity for theme parks to present new and exciting experiences to their visitors. Industry experts such as International Expo Consults, organisers of DEAL - the largest exhibition for the entertainment and leisure industry in the MENA region, foresee this concept to take off completely by 2019.

According to Sharif Rahman, CEO, IEC, "Theme parks have always been tried to provide exotic experiences to the visitors. Earlier they used to utilize painted sceneries, and then dark rides, animatronics, projections and then 3D technology. VR is the next step in the evolution of the entertainment segment and has been talked as the next big thing in the industry. In DEAL 2018, we had multiple exhibitors such as ASI, Warehouse of Games, Kyona and many Chinese exhibitors who had VR based games and applications. Virtual Reality is a popular concept that has captured the attention of the world. Even in Dubai, there are many options for VR based rides in Hub Zero, Magic Planet and the VR Parkthat opened up earlier this year."

Many theme park operators around the world have utilized the VR technology to spice up their rides. By using VR headsets, the ordinary rollercoaster becomes an immersive experience which can take visitor to far and distant real and imaginary lands or even underwater. While it is a good strategy to re-package the ride as a new experience every few months, there is still a few drawbacks of utilizing the technology. The turnaround time has increased significantly – the amount of time and staff that is required to get the visitors in and out of the headsets has increased. Therefore, making the lines longer and more importantly - the costs significantly higher. A theme park also introduced a two part headset that would reduce the amount of time it takes to cycle a guest. Such innovations are required to overcome the failings and achieve the enormous potential the technology holds.

Another method of utilizing VR without involving the rides in the park is to have free roaming VR experiences. Visitors can be armed with weapons to blast aliens or zombies or other villains in an immersive video game. Various branded titles such as ghostbusters, Star Wars have already leant their trademarks for similar experiences. Perhaps developers will figure out a way to merge the two and provide a combination of free roaming and VR ride enhancement experience.

"In the Middle East and Northern Africa market, where the industry favours indoor venues due to the harsh summer conditions,VR parks would enjoy a similar traction. The popularity is not only because of the cyclical and weather dependent nature of the outdoor theme parks in the region but also because of the intensive and immersive experience offered. Such parks would allow for round-the-year operations since they aren't guided by an uncontrollable factor-the climate. Theme parks in other parts of the world aren't affected by such issues," added Rahman.

DEAL 2019 will represent the largest gathering of entertainment and leisure industry's key players and visitors from the Middle East, Africa, US, Mediterranean and Asian countries. DEAL has shaped the region's entertainment industry for the last two and a half decades and it has brought together opinion leaders and high-tech innovations all on one platform. Dubai, UAE, April 11, 2018: International Expo-Consults, the organiserof the Dubai Entertainment Amusement & Leisure show 2018 are proud to announce that more than 300 exhibitors have signed up for the latest edition for the show. The three day show scheduled from the 9th to 11th of April 2018

While Dubai is famous for its theme parks, Family Entertainment Centers(FEC) has been an important part of the entertainment and leisure industry in the region and continues to grow steadily. According to International Expo Consults, the organisers of the DEAL (Dubai Entertainment Amusement and Leisure) 2018 show, innovative products and new technology like Virtual Reality (VR) would play a huge role for FECs in the near future especially in Dubai.

FECs are mini theme parks and are a collection ofmore than one attraction including rides, soft-play equipment such as the plastic maze of tubes, slides and ball pits, kid's play areas, video arcades, redemption and carnival games. A popular location for such zones is in shopping malls, where they are seamlessly integrated with the retail sector. The two (malls and FECs) have a mutually beneficial relation as they provide avenues for people of all ages, thereby increasing footfall for each other. The concept of having a FEC in the mall is so beneficial not only in terms for profitability as an additional source of revenue but also as an alternate for place for parents to leave their kids while they shop. Industry experts argue that since the rise in popularity of online marketplaces, retail has been slow to pull in the numbers of the yesteryears and it is the FECs that are increasing the footfall of the malls.

Virtual Reality (VR) the next big thing in electronic entertainment is all set to invade your favouriteFamily Entertainment Center (FEC). With the help of VR technology, users can experience a new reality which only seemed possible in the motion pictures and video games. Soon people of all ages strapped with VR paraphernalia, will enter worlds that were literally impossible to recreate.

According to Yuhanis Nawasreh, Sales & Development Manager, Warehouse of Games Ltd, "The FEC market in the MENA region is calm at the moment as compared to before. But the need for new games and new projects is still there. All the big operators are continuously looking for opportunities to invest and renovate their locations by adding new games. Utilising trade shows such as DEAL Middle East is a viable option to showcase our new games and products to the market. This year we would be launching games with license names and famous cartoon characters, such as the Rabbids , DC Hero , Winter X Games , Despicable Me and Spongebob with wide variety of redemption games , video games , kiddie rides , photo machines andnovelty games".

Another DEAL exhibitor from Switzerland – Kyona is upbeat about VR technology and its applications in FECs. Michel Baud-Bovy, Kyona commented, "For DEAL 2018, we would be showcasing the World Premier for Koliseum Soccer VR - a Soccer table using virtual reality technology. VR is the latest trend for the industry and according to Forbes Augmented / Virtual Reality revenue is forecasted to hit $ 120 billion by 2020. At DEAL we hope to find distributors and new customers for our products".

As the Expo 2020 mega event looms closer the shopping malls and attractions construction in Dubai have witnessed resurgence of late. The fact that the world expo is likely to attract more than 25 million visitors, 70% of whom are expected to come from nearly 200 countries from around the world has ignited the construction industry. This boom would positively influence the FEC industry to create more entertainment and leisure avenues for the visitors of the Expo and into the foreseeable future.

"The popularity of the Family Entertainment Centers has gone up in recent history. They are invariably present in most of the mega malls in this region. It's a good thing that FECs don't face the same seasonal problems like theme parks which become increasingly uncomfortable in the summer time in the region. This provides FECs with an undeniable advantage over the traditional theme parks", stated Mr. Sharif Rahman, CEO, IEC.

The DEAL show has shaped the region's entertainment industry for the past two decades and it has brought together great minds and their world class innovations all under one umbrella. DEAL has led the amusement and entertainment space during this period and the testimony to this is the fact that exhibitors at last year's show had signed high value contracts in just 3 days. Foraying into the 24thedition, DEAL 2018 expects to witness an even larger gathering of key players and visitors in the amusement industry from Middle East, Africa, US, Mediterranean and Asian countries.

DEAL, since its inception in 1995 has developed into an unparalleled platform that gathers exhibitors, buyers, and professionals from the international amusement and entertainment industry. The show is slated to be held from 9-11April 2018 at Halls 1& Za'abeel Halls 1, 2, 3 at the iconic Dubai World Trade Centre
